Troubleshooting instructions to resolve preferences migration issues when you update XD
Updating Issue
When updating XD, user preferences are automatically migrated. In some cases, due to permission issues, the preference migration fails in the backend and a notification appears.
Solution
In the User Library folder:
- Click Cmd+Shift+G from the Mac desktop (or Finder > Go > Go to Folder).
- Type in ~/Library to temporarily access the Library directory in the Finder.
- Navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe.
Locate and delete the folder named Adobe XD.
Rename the folder Adobe XD CC to Adobe XD.
In the User Library folder:
- Click Cmd+Shift+G from the Mac desktop (or Finder > Go > Go to Folder)
- Type in ~/Library to temporarily access the Library directory in the Finder.
- Navigate to ~/Library/Application Support.
Delete the folder Adobe.XD.
Rename the folder Adobe.CC.XD to Adobe.XD.
Downgrading Issue
When you downgrade from the latest version of Adobe XD starting from XD 18.0 to any of the previous XD versions, the preferences are not migrated. You know the migration has failed when the changes made to the document are not shown in the Recent section of the Welcome screen.
Solution
Quit the Adobe XD App.
In the User Library folder:
- Click Cmd+Shift+G from the Mac desktop (or Finder > Go > Go to Folder).
- Type in ~/Library to temporarily access the Library directory in the Finder.
- Navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe.
Locate and delete the folder named Adobe XD CC.
Rename the folder named Adobe XD to Adobe XD CC.
In the User Library folder:
- Click Cmd+Shift+G from the Mac desktop (or Finder > Go > Go to Folder).
- Type in ~/Library to temporarily access the Library directory in the Finder.
- Navigate to ~/Library/Application Support.
Delete the Folder by Adobe.CC.XD.
Rename the Folder Adobe.XD to Adobe.CC.XD.
