Import Markdown files into a project

Learn how you can import Markdown files and convert them into HTML topics in your project.

Import a Markdown file

To import the Markdown file in your current project, follow these steps:

In the Contents panel, do one of the following:
- Select the desired folder in which you want to import the Markdown (.md) file. Then, select File > Import > Markdown File.
- Right-click the desired folder or click against it and select Import > Markdown File.
In the Open dialog box, select the Markdown file you want to import and click Open. The selected file is imported as a topic (.htm) inside your project folder.
The HTML version of the selected Markdown file is generated and added as a topic in the selected folder. If you don't choose a folder while importing, the Markdown file is imported as a root-level topic in the Contents panel.

The Markdown file should have a .md or .markdown extension.

You can select and import multiple files at the same time. While importing multiple Markdown files, the links and cross-references do not break in the imported HTML files.
