Deploying Adobe XD for Enterprise: Issues and Limitations

The Universal Windows Platform (UWP) is a development platform from Microsoft for Windows 10 apps. The platform is under active and continuous improvements from Microsoft. This includes a number of enhancements that have been made for Windows Redstone 2 (Creators Update: 15063) over Redstone 1 (Anniversary Update: 14393). You might experience certain specific installation and uninstallation issues when you deploy packages that include UWP apps for the users in your organization.

This document lists the issues that you might experience when deploying packages that include Adobe XD that is built on UWP. These issues will not prevent your users from using Adobe XD but you should be aware of these issues and workarounds, where available, to provide a smooth experience for your users.

You are also recommended to go through the system requirements.

Adobe XD for Enterprises is supported on Windows Redstone 2 (Creators Update: 15063) and above.

Installation

This section covers the known installation issues and limitations that you face when deploying packages that include Adobe XD.

App not installed at custom location

When you deploy a package on a host computer, you can specify a location to install the apps that are included in the package. However, if Adobe XD is included in the package, it is installed at a predefined location on the host computer. You cannot choose the directory location to install Adobe XD.

If you select a drive other than the C drive when installing the package, a junction to this folder is also be created in:

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps

Cannot use Remote Update Manage to update app

You cannot update Adobe XD using the Remote Update Manager.

Error installing lower version of app

You cannot install or roll back to a lower version of Adobe XD if a higher version of the app is already installed on the end-user computer. In this case, the install process returns a generic error 191 for the Adobe XD install failure. And you need use the Windows Event Viewer to check the error details.

For this reason, you are recommended not to include multiple versions of Adobe XD in same package when using Creative Cloud Packager.

To work around this issue, if you need install a lower version of Adobe XD on an end-user computer, you will need to first uninstall the higher version.

App not installed in specific language

When you create a package, you can select the language in which the package is deployed. However, if the package includes Adobe XD when a user runs the app, the language for the app is picked at launch from the regional settings of the host computer. This is because UWP apps are not installed in a particular language.

App does not launch if package deployed on non-NTFS drives

If a package that includes Adobe XD is deployed on a non-NTFS (FAT32, exFAT) drive, the installed app does not launch.

Adobe XD is not available on all Windows profiles

If your organization is creating images of a Windows computer (using SysPrep or Norton Ghost) after installing XD on that computer, then XD will not be available on all Windows profiles. For Norton Ghost, XD will be available only for the first user who logs into the computer. For SysPrep, XD will be available only for the user account that was used to install it.

Uninstallation

This section covers the known issues and limitations that you face when uninstalling Adobe XD.

Users unable to uninstall app installed using SCCM

After an admin uses SCCM to install a package, a user uninstalls Adobe XD that was installed as part of the package. If the user logs out of the computer and then logs back in, Adobe XD is still available. The user is unable to uninstall the app.

To work around this issue, the admin needs to uninstall the package using SCCM.

Issue with multiple users uninstalling same package

Say that you install a package that includes Adobe XD on a computer for multiple users. If one user uninstalls the package, other users on that computer cannot then uninstall that package.

To work around this issue:

  • Use the Uninstall package feature to uninstall the package.
  • An admin uninstalls the package using SCCM.

Best practices

  • Adobe XD package installation, when done locally, makes Adobe XD available only for the user account that the installation was performed under.
  • Adobe recommends that you to deploy Adobe XD in a logged off machine state. This ensures that Adobe XD is made available to any user who logs into the machine.
