Provide Experience Manager access to your Creative Cloud for enterprise users. Add Asset Link users to your Experience Manager environment product profile using the Admin Console. Each user then receives an email confirming access and can sign in to Experience Manager through Adobe Asset Link.

Configure Experience Manager Assets as a Cloud Service
Learn how to configure Adobe Experience Manager Assets as a Cloud Service for use with the Adobe Asset Link extension for Creative Cloud apps.
Adobe Asset Link streamlines collaboration between creatives and marketers during content creation. It connects Adobe Experience Manager Assets and Experience Manager Assets Essentials with Creative Cloud desktop apps, so creative professionals can access, use, and modify content stored in Experience Manager Assets without leaving their apps.
Experience Manager Assets as a Cloud Service works with Adobe Asset Link out of the box, with easy automation for selective asset processing tailored to your organization. Experience Manager Assets Essentials is a SaaS solution for storing, managing, and discovering digital assets, and it integrates natively with other Adobe solutions.
If you use a previous version of Experience Manager Assets, see Configure Experience Manager 6.4 or 6.5 for Adobe Asset Link.
Before you begin
Configure Experience Manager with an Experience Manager administrator account. Before you start, make sure you have:
- The user group you created for Adobe Asset Link. Note its name, because it maps to a synced group in Experience Manager, and it must not match the name of an existing Experience Manager group.
- Your organization ID from the Admin Console URL (the value ending in @AdobeOrg), which links Experience Manager to the Adobe Identity Management System (IMS). For Experience Manager as a Cloud Service, this connection is established automatically through common cloud infrastructure; the organization ID is primarily needed for Experience Manager 6.x.
Configure user access
Common cloud infrastructure for user management and authentication across Experience Manager as a Cloud Service and Creative Cloud allows seamless administration of the services, users, and permissions. An Experience Manager administrator completes these tasks:
Grant permissions to Assets content. Ensure the user groups your Asset Link users belong to have the necessary permissions in the Experience Manager Security Console. Groups from the Admin Console appear in Experience Manager as profiles, so ensure they have access to content under the /content/dam path. Typically, add the user group to the standard DAM Users group, which has default permissions for Assets users. Configure more specific permissions as your business needs require.
Configure optional functionality in Experience Manager, such as post-processing workflows, for-placement-only (FPO) renditions for InDesign, and Adobe Stock integration.
When a Creative Cloud user signs in to the Asset Link panel, it connects to the available Experience Manager account automatically. If the user is entitled to more than one Assets account, a list appears so they can choose.
Organization administrators use the Admin Console to manage users and user groups. To manage users of Assets Essentials through the Admin Console, see deploy Essentials and add users.
Generate for-placement-only (FPO) renditions for InDesign
When placing large assets from Experience Manager into InDesign documents, a creative professional may wait a long time after placing an asset and be blocked from using InDesign while it loads. This interrupts the creative flow. To avoid this, Experience Manager can place a small for-placement-only (FPO) rendition first. When the final output is required, for example, for print and publishing, the original full-resolution asset replaces the temporary rendition in the background. This asynchronous update speeds up the design process without hindering the creative flow.
FPO renditions have a small file size but the same aspect ratio. If an FPO rendition is unavailable for an asset, InDesign uses the original asset instead, so the workflow continues without interruption. Experience Manager as a Cloud Service uses cloud-native asset microservices to generate FPO renditions for both newly uploaded and existing assets. See Generate FPO renditions.
Configure Adobe Stock
Integrate your Adobe Stock for enterprise plan with Assets so licensed assets are broadly available for creative and marketing projects, with the asset management capabilities of Experience Manager. This makes licensed high-quality assets, royalty-free photos, vectors, illustrations, videos, templates, and 3D assets available for your projects, and creative professionals can use them through the Asset Link panel. To integrate, see Adobe Stock assets in Assets.
Use visual or similarity search
Visual search lets you find visually similar assets in the Experience Manager Assets repository from the Adobe Asset Link panel. See how to search and use similar assets with Asset Link.
Tips and troubleshooting
Follow these best practices for a better experience:
- To generate FPO renditions for many assets or the entire repository, plan and run the workflows during low-traffic periods. Generating FPO renditions at scale is resource-intensive, and the Experience Manager servers need sufficient processing power and memory.
If you run into issues while configuring Experience Manager:
- If Creative Cloud users cannot check in checked-out assets, check the permissions assigned to the users or user groups, and ensure they have access to the required Experience Manager repository folders or assets.
- Contact your organization's partner or system integrator.
- For more, see Troubleshoot Adobe Asset Link.
