Error 506 causes install policy failure

Last updated on 12 February 2026

Learn how to resolve error code 506 "Install policy failure" during Adobe app installation on Windows.

Error code 506 indicates that sideloading is disabled or that necessary permissions are not enabled. To fix the error, work through the following solutions sequentially, proceeding to the next, if necessary.

Sideloading isn't enabled on your device

Enabling sideloading allows installation of trusted apps outside the Microsoft Store.

Select the Windows search bar on the desktop and search for Developer settings.

On the For developers settings, enable Developer Mode.

For developers menu of the System Settings displays the Developer Mode 'Install apps from any source, including loose files' option toggled on.
If you see a greyed-out Developer mode option, you may need admin permission to edit it.

Try installing the app again using the Creative Cloud desktop app.

Note

If Developer Mode is greyed out, you might need administrator permission to change this setting.

App installation settings aren’t enabled on your device (Group policy)

If installation policies are restricted through Group Policy, enable trusted app installation settings:

In Windows search, type gpedit.msc and press Enter.

Windows search bar displays the Group Policy Editor or gpedit.msc file.
When you press Enter, a new window opens up.

In the Local Group Policy Editor window, navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > App Package Deployment.

In the right pane, double-click Allow all trusted apps to install.

Local Group Policy Editor window displays the App Package Deployment option in the left rail and Allow all trusted apps to install option on the right
A new window will open to display more installation options.

Select Enabled, then OK.

A new window displays settings for 'Allow all trusted apps to install,' including Not Configures, Enabled, and Disabled.
Your changes will be implemented in the group policy editor settings.

Reopen the Creative Cloud desktop app and install the app again.

Windows registry doesn't have Trusted Apps enabled

If Group Policy is unavailable, enable Trusted Apps in the registry.

In Windows search, type in regedit.

In the Registry Editor window, copy and paste HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Appx in the search bar.

Select File > Export to back up your registry.

Select Save to create the backup copy of your registry file.

Note

If something goes wrong, you can restore the registry using the backup copy.

Locate AllowAllTrustedApps and set its value to 1.

Install the Creative Cloud app again.
