Remove objects from an image with generative AI

Explore your ideas, brainstorm diverse concepts, and generate numerous variations effortlessly in no time.

  • Improve the composition of your image by removing distractions. For example, remove a power line from a photo of a forest or a person from a photo of a historical monument.
  • Create more specific images that are focused on a particular subject. For example, remove a person from a product photo.
  • Create unique and creative images by experimenting with different compositions and styles. For example, remove a tree from a landscape photo or a person from a group photo.

Erase objects from your images instantly

  1. Go to the Generative Fill feature in the Firefly web app.

  2. Upload an image or select a sample asset from the gallery.

  3. To remove an unwanted object, select   Remove and brush the objects to remove.

  4. Edit your brush strokes or settings using the following tools:

    Tool

    Description

    Add  

    Add brush strokes

    Subtract  

    Erase brush strokes

    Brush settings  

    Modify the size, hardness (feathering), or opacity of the brush

    Background  

    Erase or replace the background of the image

    Invert  

    Invert the selection

    Reset  

    Remove all changes made to the image and reset to the original state

  5. Select Remove.

  6. Choose an image from the generated results or select More to generate more variations.

  7. To provide feedback on the quality and accuracy of the image or to report an image if it looks problematic or offensive, hover over a variation and select the Options menu   icon.

  8. Select Keep to continue with the selected image or Cancel to discard the variations generated.

  9. After the image is ready, you can edit, share, or save the image:

    Edit the image with Adobe Express — apply filters and adjustments, remove background, add text, and more.

    Share

    Edit the image with Adobe Express or copy it to the clipboard.

    Download

    Save the image locally.

    Content Credentials are applied to the image on download and on publish.
