Edit generated video using text prompts

Learn how to use partner video models to edit and refine generated videos using text prompts in Firefly.

When you generate videos using the Generate video feature in Firefly, you can easily edit and refine them with simple text prompts. Whether you’re adjusting styles, fine-tuning details, or making creative changes, the Edit option in the Generate video feature lets you customize your video to match your vision.

Below are a few examples that highlight common video editing scenarios using text prompts. You can use the following partner models to modify the videos you generate:

Original generated video

New edits made using a text prompt

Prompt used: Change the color of flowers to shades of yellow.

Prompt used to remove and add elements

Prompt used: Remove all the flowers, replace them with green moss, and change the lid color to gold.

Transition added with a text prompt

Prompt used: Change the background to yellow, morph the jar into a white camellia, and brighten the light before the entire frame fades completely to white.

Edit video using Runway Gen-4 Aleph

Before you begin:

Use Firefly or partner video models to generate a video from a text prompt, an image, or a combination of both.

Hover your cursor over the generated video to enable post-generation options, then select EditPrompt to edit clip.

The options to edit the video are displayed when you hover your cursor over the generated video.
Select the Prompt to edit clip option to start editing the generated video using text prompts.

Alternatively, you can also select the Edit tab at the top of the page.

On the Edit page, use the model menu to select Runway Gen-4 Aleph from the available models.

The model dropdown menu is open, and a partner video model is selected to edit the video.
Select a partner video model to edit your video using text prompts.

Add a prompt describing what you want to edit in the image. It could be removing elements, adding new ones, changing the background, enhancing specific details, or more.

Create a text prompt to edit the video, such as adjusting colors, changing lighting, or replacing objects.

Select Generate.

Once your video is generated, if you’d like to make additional edits or refinements, go to the Generate tab and use either the Edit tab at the top or the overlay option on the video to repeat the process.

The Generate tab is highlighted so that you can make further edits to the generated video.

Edit video using Ray3.14 Modify

After you use Firefly or partner video models to generate a video, hover your cursor over the generated video to enable post-generation options, then select EditPrompt to edit clip.

Alternatively, you can also select the Edit tab at the top of the page.

On the Edit page, use the model menu to select Ray3.14 from the available models.

Add a prompt describing what you want to edit in the image, such as removing elements, adding new ones, or changing the background.

Select the First frame and upload an image if you want to set it as the starting point of your video. Select Last frame and upload an image to define the ending point.

Tip

To get the best results, modify the first frame image with the desired change, allowing the model to propagate the change through the rest of the video

Move the Strength bar to the left if you want the generated output to adhere to the provided references. Move it to the right if you want it to be more flexible and creative.

The First frame and Last frame are added, and the Strength slider is highlighted to adjust the adherence of the generated output to the uploaded frames.
Use the Strength slider to adjust the degree of adherence between the generated output and the uploaded frames.

Select Generate.

Once your video is generated, if you’d like to make additional edits or refinements, go to the Generate tab and use either the Edit tab at the top or the overlay option on the video to repeat the process.

Edit video using Ray3 Modify

After you use Firefly or partner video models to generate a video, hover your cursor over the generated video to enable post-generation options, then select EditPrompt to edit clip.

Alternatively, you can also select the Edit tab at the top of the page.

On the Edit page, use the model menu to select Ray3 Modify from the available models.

Add a prompt describing what you want to edit in the image, such as removing elements, adding new ones, or changing the background.

Select the First frame and upload an image if you want to set it as the starting point of your video. Select Last frame and upload an image to define the ending point.

Tip

To get the best results, modify the first frame image with the desired change, allowing the model to propagate the change through the rest of the video

Move the Strength bar to the left if you want the generated output to adhere to the provided references. Move it to the right if you want it to be more flexible and creative.

With Ray3 Modify, you can modify how a character looks in the edited video. Select Character reference to add an image that helps the model align the character’s appearance with the provided reference while modifying the video.

Select Generate.
