Error code 702: Installation failed

Error code 702: Installation failed

Error code 702 indicates an installation failure. This error usually occurs on macOS when you don't have the appropriate permission to access a file or directory required for the install. If you have logged in to your account with administrator privileges, but are still unable to install, your there might be an issue with permissions. You need to fix these permissions before continuing with your install.

Solution

Follow these steps to repair permissions.

  1. Quit the installer, if it's already running.

  2. In Finder, open the /Applications/Utilities folder, and then double-click Terminal.

  3. Type ls -la /tmp in Terminal and press Return. This displays the permissions for the /tmp/ folder.

  4. Check that the permissions show that the root admin has the read, write, and execute permissions for the /tmp/ folder. You should see the following response after entering the command: lrwxr-xr-x; root admin.

  5. If the permissions are not correct, contact Apple Support.

  6. Type ls -la /private/tmp in Terminal and press Return. This displays the permissions for the /private/tmp/ folder.

  7. Check that the permissions show that everyone has read and write permissions for the /private/tmp folder.  After entering the command, you should see the following as the first entry in the list of permissions: drwxrwxrwt; root wheel.

  8. If the permissions are not correct, contact Apple Support.

  9. Restart the device and try to install your app again.
