Error DF024 installing Adobe Creative Cloud, Creative Suite, Elements products

Error DF024 when installing Creative Cloud, Creative Suite, Photoshop Elements, or Premiere Elements

When you install a Creative Cloud or Creative Suite application, Photoshop Elements, or Premiere Elements, you receive an error such as the following:

  • DF024: Unable to preserve original file at "/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Recommended.
  • ERROR: DF024: Unable to move file at "C:\Program Files (x86)\..." to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015\AXE8SharedExpat.dll"
  • ERROR: DF024: Unable to move file at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\..." to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2015\..." Error 32 The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. Try setting correct permissions to the specified file/folder or parent folder, so that admin has rights to modify it.(Seq 899)

This error often occurs because you do not have permission to modify the file or because the file is already in use by another application or process.

Note:

This error often occurs when permissions are set improperly after a system restore or time machine recovery. It may also occur if you try migrating or copying Adobe applications to another computer. For proper installation, always reinstall Adobe apps; do not simply copy them to a new machine.

Solution 1: Adjust file permissions

Check your Adobe log files to find the specific file causing the error, and then ensure that you have permissions to read and write files to the parent directory that contains the file. For detailed instructions, see:

Creative Cloud: Verify file permission in Creative Cloud

Creative Suite (CS6, CS5.5, CS5), Photoshop Elements, Premiere Elements: Verify file permissions in Creative Suite

Solution 2: Temporarily disable antivirus software

Your antivirus software may prevent required files being moved from the Temp directory to the Program Files or Applications directory. See the antivirus software documentation for instructions on how to temporarily disable the virus check.

Solution 3: Log in using a new admin account

Occasionally, a user account can become corrupted and prevent the installer from accessing or creating the necessary files and folders. Create a new admin account, log in to the new account, and then try to install your Adobe application again. For detailed instructions, see:

Mac OS X: Install or run Adobe applications in new user account | Mac OS X

Windows: Create new local administrator account | Windows

If you are able to install your Adobe application successfully with the new local administrator account, and you were unable to adjust the file permissions in Solution 1, you may want to migrate your documents and settings to the new account.
