Error 198 causes update failure

Learn how to resolve error code 198  "Unable to install an update of the product" during Adobe app updates. 

Required file or permissions are missing 

Error 198 happens when the installer cannot access a required file or folder. This may occur if the file or folder has incorrect or restricted permissions, if the file was removed during a manual cleanup, or if a required directory is missing.

To fix this issue, review the installation log and update permissions for the affected paths.

Check the installation log file for error codes and file paths. 

Identify the parent folder (or directory) in each error message (the folder directly before the final folder in the path).

Close all Adobe applications.

If the referenced file or folder was removed during manual cleanup and no longer exists, uninstall the affected Adobe app, and install the latest version from the Creative Cloud desktop app.
