Overview

Text input boxes are text fields into which users can enter text. Text entry boxes are a great way to test users’ knowledge. After the user answers a question, Adobe Captivate matches the answer with the answers that you've set when creating the text entry box. You can even provide a hint to the user if you want to.

Add an input field

To add an input field, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the slide on which you want to add an input field.

  2. On the left pane, select Add Interactive Components > Input Field

  3. To change the properties of the input field, select the box and change the properties on the Property Panel.

Change the properties of the input field

To change the properties of an input field, select it on the slide. The Property Panel displays the properties of the input field.

You can view changes instantly to the selected instance of the input field when you change the properties.

  1. Select the required design option.

  2. In the Settings section, select the following:

    • Variable: Select the variable name that stores the value entered in the text entry box by the learners.
    • Case sensitive: Select this option to enter strictly case-sensitive text.
  3. Select the input type for the field. The available options are:

    • Text: Select this field for users to enter only text-based data.
    • Password: Displays asterisks in the input field to indicate that the box is a password field.
    • Numbers: Select this field for users to enter numeric data.
    • Uppercase: Select this field for users to enter uppercase characters into the text entry box. All characters typed into the box are automatically converted to uppercase, even if users type them in lowercase.
    • Lowercase: Select this field for users to enter lowercase characters into the text entry box. All characters typed into the box are automatically converted to lowercase, even if users type them in uppercase.

Include the answers in a quiz

To include the answer in a quiz, follow the steps below:

  3. Select the following:

    • Points: The score that you want to assign to the question. The maximum is 100 points, and the minimum is zero. The points assigned to this text entry box add to the score results of the current quiz.
    • Add to Total: Includes the points for the correct selection in the total score.
    • Report to LMS: Sends the quiz score to the learning management system (LMS).
    • Interaction ID: Sends tracking information to your learning management system. Use the interaction ID specified by your learning management system.
