Learn how the Contextual Task Bar provides quick, relevant actions, making your workflow smoother.

The Contextual Task Bar is a floating bar in your workspace that provides the most relevant next actions based on your frame or tool selection. The Contextual Task Bar is pinned by default. However, you can always move, unpin, or hide it.

Follow along with any project to learn how to use the contextual task bar.

Open InDesign
Tip:

Once you select Hide Context Bar , the Contextual Task Bar will not open by default. Select Window > Contextual Task Bar to see it on the workspace.

  1. Create a new document in InDesign.

  2. You can select any of the following options from the Contextual Task Bar:

    Selection

    Action

    Add a frame

    Drag on the workspace to create a new frame.

    Start with Image

    Select Import File   to add an existing image.

    Select Text to Image   to generate an image with a simple text prompt.

    Type tool

    Drag anywhere on the workspace to create a text frame and start typing.

    Margins and Columns

    Set the Margin and Column specifications for your document.

    Add a Page

    A new page with the same dimensions and properties as the existing one is added.

  3. Select the ellipsis icon to Show Properties Panel , Start with a Template  , Hide Context Bar , or Unpin Context Bar .

  1. Open any document in InDesign, and select the Type tool from the Contextual Task Bar.

  2. Drag anywhere on the workspace to create a text frame and start typing.

  3. Customize the Font Name , Font Style , Font Size , Fill   icon, and Align   icon.

  4. Select the ellipsis icon to Show Properties Panel , Text Frame Options  , Hide Context Bar , or Unpin Context Bar .

  2. Drag anywhere on the workspace to create an image frame.

  3. Select Text to Image to generate an image with a simple text prompt or Import Image .
