Interpret a Photoshop crash report | macOS

In the unlikely event of Photoshop crashing, the crash report provides clues for diagnosing what went wrong.

Be sure to submit all crash reports. If you submit a crash report for a known issue to Adobe with your email address, we can email you a solution for correcting the problem.

You can also share the crash report on Photoshop troubleshooting communities, such as the following, to get help resolving the issue:

You can also inspect the crash log to find clues to help you further troubleshoot.

Note:

A freeze and crash are completely different incidents. To diagnose a freese, see How to get a Process Sample or Spindump | macOS.

Find crash reports

On macOS, you can find the crash report at this location:

  • Users/<your user name>/Library/Logs/CrashReporter

To navigate to this location, you'll need to access the hidden user library files on macOS. See Method 2 in this article to understand how.

Read a crash report

A crash report is a simple text file that can be opened in any text editor, including TextEdit which is installed by default with macOS.

The examples below show sample crash reports from Photoshop. Most of the important information in a crash report is in the very beginning. Also, a crash report may mention many threads. The only thread of interest from a troubleshooting perspective is the one that crashed (see the "Crashed thread" line in Example 1 below). Within the section for that thread, the topmost lines matter the most, since they indicate what Photoshop was doing before it crashed.

Examples of crash reports

In these examples, the text following <-- are comments/annotations to help you understand the report.
