Update text layers for vector-based output

Last updated on Apr 3, 2026

Learn how to update Chinese, Japanese, and Korean (CJK) text layers in Adobe Photoshop for accurate display and printing.

When you open a document, Photoshop may detect differences in how Chinese, Japanese, or Korean (CJK) text was rendered, especially if it was created in another version or uses different fonts. Photoshop may then prompt you to update the text layers to ensure accurate display and vector-based output.

Select File > Open to open a document containing CJK text in Photoshop.

When prompted, select Update to refresh text layers for vector-based output. Most changes are minor and visible only when zoomed in.

Review the document for text changes, such as shifted, reflowed, or missing text.

Adjust the text frame, spacing, or alignment, or press Esc to cancel and keep the original text appearance.

Note

If you don’t update text layers, Photoshop uses the saved bitmap version for display and printing. Update layers to ensure crisp, vector-based CJK text.
