Generative AI features in Acrobat apps have certain usage limitations. Plans may include a limited number of Requests for AI Assistant at no additional charge, after which users must purchase an Acrobat AI plan to continue using these features. Requests (see below for definition) used to generate text-based summaries, or ask questions of AI Assistant, cannot be used towards or combined with Creative Cloud generative credits. We reserve the right to introduce generative credit consumption for generative AI features in Acrobat in the future and may update usage limits at any time, including the ability to limit, throttle, or suspend usage that exceeds our limits.
Access to generative AI features in Acrobat is available to customers who subscribe to plans that include AI Assistant, such as AI Assistant for Acrobat or Acrobat Studio. Subscriptions to Acrobat plans with access to generative AI features are available on desktop, web, and mobile apps in English and other languages. The use of generative AI features in Acrobat involves cloud processing of documents.

Users may receive a limited number of complimentary Requests for AI Assistant and generative summaries to try the service.
Full feature access
To unlock more Requests and ongoing access to generative AI features in Acrobat, users can purchase a subscription to an Acrobat plan with AI Assistant, such as Acrobat Studio. Learn more about Acrobat plans and pricing.
- Acrobat plans with AI Assistant for Individuals: Users purchasing subscriptions that include AI Assistant access will receive 1,000 Requests/month per user. When this limit is reached, Adobe may throttle usage. Please note that Requests are not the same as generative credits, which are tracked separately.
- AI Assistant for Enterprise plans: Organizations purchasing Acrobat subscription plans that include AI Assistant get full access to the AI Assistant, subject to throttling as described below. Please note that Requests are not the same as generative credits, which are tracked separately.
Beta, Prerelease, and Early Access Programs
Users may receive complimentary Requests or generations in exchange for providing feedback about the service. Enterprise customers can also try the generative AI features by requesting to join the Technical Evaluation Program or the Early Adopters Program. Early access programs are not a part of Acrobat paid plans or subscriptions.
Definitions and limitations
Request
A Request occurs in AI Assistant or PDF Spaces when a user types a prompt, selects a suggested prompt, or starts an AI task that meets the generative AI technical requirements. Only Requests that generate a Response count toward AI Assistant usage limits. Requests are not the same as generative credits.
Examples:
- Typing a question into AI Assistant prompt bar and receiving an answer.
- Selecting Generative summary and getting a summary.
- Selecting a prompt in chat with AI Assistant in PDF Spaces and getting a Response.
Response
A Response is a successful output from the AI Assistant, such as a summary or an answer. Failed Requests due to technical issues do not count as Responses.
Throttling
To manage system load and ensure fair usage, AI Assistant limits the number of Requests per user (based on user ID, IP, or agreement ID) by the minute, hour, and day.
If limits are exceeded, subsequent Requests are rejected with an HTTP 429 error. Each Request is evaluated based on resource use; some may consume more depending on the parameters involved.
Generative credit
Generative credits are like tokens you can use to generate high-quality outputs in formats like image, vector, video, and audio. They can be used with generative AI features in most Acrobat and Creative Cloud products, such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Firefly.
- Purpose: Generative credits provide a way to reflect the additional cost and value of our generative AI features and give you a way to keep track of how you use them. We reserve the right to introduce generative credit consumption for generative AI features in Acrobat in the future and may update usage limits at any time, including the ability to limit, throttle, or suspend usage that exceeds our limits.
- Allocation: Creative Cloud and some Acrobat subscription plans include monthly allocations of generative credits that can be used to create generative AI content across various Adobe apps. The number of generative credits included in each plan varies, and the number of generative credits features used depends on the type of feature and the type of plan you are subscribed to.
- Renewal: For paid subscriptions, generative credits are renewed monthly on the billing date on which you started your plan. Unused generative credits do not roll over to the next month. Your generative credit balance will be reset to your allocated amount monthly. You can find your reset date in your Account menu at any time. Your monthly reset date is the day of the month on which you first initiated or were assigned your plan.
