Adobe Genuine Service

The Adobe Genuine Service (AGS) is a service that periodically verifies whether Adobe apps on your machine are genuine and notifies you if they are not.

What is the Adobe Genuine Service?

The Adobe Genuine Service (AGS) is a service that periodically verifies whether Adobe apps on your machine are genuine and notifies you if they are not. Using Adobe software that is not genuine poses a risk for individuals and organizations as it is often modified, leading to issues such as:

  • increased risk of exposure to viruses and malware that can compromise your data
  • increased chances of the software not functioning correctly or failing completely

The service is designed to:

  • Periodically verify whether the Adobe apps installed on your machine are genuine.
  • Notify you through pop-up and in-app notifications if non-genuine Adobe apps are found.
  • Provide detailed information on how to resolve the issue via the notification.
  • Provide access to a specialized customer support team via the notification.

In some cases, Adobe may reach out to customers directly to help resolve the issue.

We find that many customers are unaware they have installed or purchased Adobe apps and services that are not genuine and may need additional information to address the situation. Therefore, we recommend that you continue to run AGS on your machine.

Only genuine Adobe apps and services provide the latest features and functionality, including ongoing access to support and the latest security updates. Therefore, in an effort to block fraudulent activity and help safeguard your machine, Adobe may disable the identified non-genuine Adobe app.

AGS will automatically uninstall if no Adobe apps are present

The AGS includes an automatic uninstall feature. When you uninstall all Adobe apps from your machine, whether they are genuine or not, the AGS will automatically uninstall itself.

Specialized support for customers who have unintentionally installed non-genuine Adobe apps

Adobe recognizes that many customers may be surprised to learn that they have Adobe apps and services that are not genuine, and may need additional information to address the situation. We provide specialized support and resources to help customers decide on the best solution for their needs.

Supporting our customers who have unknowingly installed fraudulent or modified software is a priority for Adobe. It is our mission to provide customers with the best experience while helping them avoid non-genuine or fraudulent software.

What else is Adobe doing to prevent fraud?

Supporting our customers who have unknowingly installed non-genuine software is only part of the how Adobe is addressing this issue. In addition to the AGS, Adobe works proactively to help prevent fraud at the source by monitoring fraud trends, blocking known issues, closing potential gaps, prosecuting offending suppliers, and educating on fraud awareness and prevention.

We also continuously work to improve our fraud detection capabilities across the company to help prevent Adobe apps from being modified. We want our customers to enjoy the full benefits of genuine Adobe apps and services.
