Overview
Text input boxes are text fields into which users can enter text. Text entry boxes are a great way to test users’ knowledge. After the user answers a question, Adobe Captivate matches the answer with the answers that you've set when creating the text entry box. You can even provide a hint to the user if you want to.
Add an input field
To add an input field, follow the steps below:

On the left pane, select Add Interactive Components > Input Field.

To change the properties of the input field, select the box and change the properties on the Property Panel.
Change the properties of the input field
To change the properties of an input field, select it on the slide. The Property Panel displays the properties of the input field.
You can view changes instantly to the selected instance of the input field when you change the properties.

Select the required design option.

In the Settings section, select the following:
- Variable: Select the variable name that stores the value entered in the text entry box by the learners.
- Case sensitive: Select this option to enter strictly case-sensitive text.

Select the input type for the field. The available options are:
- Text: Select this field for users to enter only text-based data.
- Password: Displays asterisks in the input field to indicate that the box is a password field.
- Numbers: Select this field for users to enter numeric data.
- Uppercase: Select this field for users to enter uppercase characters into the text entry box. All characters typed into the box are automatically converted to uppercase, even if users type them in lowercase.
- Lowercase: Select this field for users to enter lowercase characters into the text entry box. All characters typed into the box are automatically converted to lowercase, even if users type them in uppercase.
- Text: Select this field for users to enter only text-based data.
Add the answers
To add answers, follow the steps below:

Select the input field.

In the Settings section, select an input type, and select Add Answers.

Enter the answers. Select Save.

Add a button, when clicked goes to slide with the confirmation of the correct answer.
Add interactions to the field

Add an input field on a slide and add the responses.

Assign the correct answer to a variable. For more information, see Variables.

Select the variable from the Variable dropdown.

Set the number of attempts your learner must take before seeing the final score.

Select the input field component and then select Interactions.

Set an action, where for a correct answer, your learner sees a relevant message.

Similarly, set an action, where for an incorrect answer, your learner sees a relevant message.
Include the answers in a quiz
To include the answer in a quiz, follow the steps below:

Select the input field.

In the Reporting section, select Include in Quiz. This option considers the text entry box as a question in the current quiz. The points assigned to this box add to the score results of the current quiz.

Select the following:
- Points: The score that you want to assign to the question. The maximum is 100 points, and the minimum is zero. The points assigned to this text entry box add to the score results of the current quiz.
- Add to Total: Includes the points for the correct selection in the total score.
- Report to LMS: Sends the quiz score to the learning management system (LMS).
- Interaction ID: Sends tracking information to your learning management system. Use the interaction ID specified by your learning management system.
