Error "E_ADEPT_INTERNAL" | Download protected e-book | Digital Editions

Issue

When you download an e-book, using Adobe Digital Editions 1.7 to 1.7.2, you receive the error "E_ADEPT_INTERNAL."

Solutions

Solution 1: Try downloading the e-book again.

Solution 2: Follow the steps below to rebuild the Activation file.

Mac OS

  1. Open Adobe Digital Editions.
  2. Press Command-Shift-D to De-authorize Adobe Digital Editions.
  3. Select Erase Authorization.

  4. Click Quit.
  5. Navigate to /Users/<User Name>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash can.
  6. Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize using the setup assistant.
  7. Download the e-book again.

Windows XP/Vista/7

  1. Open Adobe Digital Editions.
  2. Press Control-Shift-D to De-Authorize Adobe Digital Editions.
  3. Select De-authorize.
  4. Click Quit.

  1. Close all applications.
  2. Choose Start > Run.
  3. In the Open text box, type regedit and then press Enter. The Registry Editor opens.

  4. In the left pane of the Registry Editor, locate the following registry key: 
  5. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept
  6. Select the Adept key.
  7. Choose File > Export.
  8. In the Export Registry File dialog box, select Selected Branch under Export Range. Enter a name and location for the backup registry key, and then click Save.
  9. Right-click the Adept key and choose Delete.
  10. In the Confirm Key Delete dialog, click OK.
  11. Close the Registry Editor.
  12. Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize using the setup assistant
  13. Download the e-book again.

Restore the Adept Registry Key

  1. If the issue still occurs, then a damaged registry entry is not the cause. You can restore the backup copy of the Adept key by doing the following:
  2. Close all applications.
  3. Choose Start > Run.
  4. In the Open text box, type regedit and then press Enter. The Registry Editor opens.
  5. In the Registry Editor, choose File > Import.
  6. In the Import Registry File dialog, navigate to the location of the backup key that you saved in the previous steps. Select the file and click Open.
