Guide a signer through completing an agreement using a host-controlled signing session on a shared device.

In-person signing in Adobe Acrobat Sign allows a host to control access to an agreement and present it to a signer on a shared device. The host starts and manages the signing session, and the signer completes the agreement without direct access to it.

The host maintains control of the signing session from start to completion.

Before you begin

  • The agreement must include an In-Person Signer recipient.
  • You must be the assigned host for the agreement.
  • Complete any required authentication before starting the session.

Start an in-person signing session

  1. Open the Manage page.

  2. Locate the agreement that is waiting for the in-person signing step.

    • The agreement will be in the Waiting for you view.
    • The agreement status will be Waiting for hosting.
  3. Select the agreement to open it.

The "Waiting for you" filter on the Manage page highlighting an agreement waiting for hosting

  4. Complete any required authentication for the in-person signer.

  5. Select Pass control.

The admonishment to remind hosts to verify the signer and witness the signature.

The signing session opens in your browser.

Guide the signer through the agreement

  1. Hand the device to the signer.

  2. The signer must select Review and Sign to gain access to the document.

The identification notice to the signer using their name so they understand they are the correct party to sign.

  3. Allow the signer to review the agreement and complete all required fields.

  4. When prompted, have the signer apply their signature.

  5. Take back control of the device after signing is complete.

The agreement proceeds to the next step or is completed based on the workflow.

What happens during the session

  • The host controls access to the agreement at all times.
  • The signer does not receive a direct notification.
  • The signer cannot access the agreement independently.
  • Authentication is applied to the host, not the signer.

End the session

After the signer completes the agreement:

  • The session ends automatically when all required actions are completed.
  • The agreement moves to the next recipient or is completed.

Things to know

  • The host is responsible for verifying the signer’s identity before handing over the device.
  • The host must remain present during the signing session.
  • Neither the host nor signer can delegate or reassign the agreement.
  • Closing the browser before completion ends the session and may require restarting it.
  • Ensure the signing session is fully completed or closed before starting a new in-person signing session on the same device.
  • The audit report records hosted signing activity, including session start and completion.
