Remove objects from a photo

Learn how to remove unwanted objects from your photos using Generative Remove.

Use the Generative Remove feature, powered by Adobe Firefly generative AI, to remove distractions and unwanted objects from a photo. Brush over the object you want to remove. Camera Raw will use Adobe Firefly generative AI to analyze the masked object and generate a fill that will blend in with the image. You need to have an internet connection to use the Generative Remove feature.

Generative Remove is currently available as Early Access in Adobe Camera Raw.

Note:

The Heal panel has been renamed to Remove. You can switch between RemoveHeal, and Clone tools in the Remove panel.

Use Generative Remove in Adobe Camera Raw

Use Generative Remove to:
  • Remove unintended objects accidentally captured, such as equipment, poles, bins, tourists, etc.
  1. In the Remove panel, select Use Generative AI

  2. Brush over the entire object, and it's shadow that you want to remove. You can adjust the brush Size and Opacity of the Overlay to make a precise selection before brushing over the object.

  3. Once you have brushed over the object, use the Refinement controls to make the following selections:

    • Add - Add more objects to the selection.
    • Subtract - Delete objects from the selection.

You can also adjust the brush size using the Size slider in the Refine menu.

The Remove panel is highlighted in Adobe Camera Raw plug-in.

  4. Adobe Camera Raw uses Adobe Firefly to generate three different variation options for you. Selecting the Refresh button will produce another set of three variations, and these new variations will replace (not augment) the previous set of variations.

  5. Select as necessary:

    • Show Overlay - This helps you view the mask overlay when you hover over the spot.
    • Visualize Spots - This helps you visualize spots to make accurate selections. You can also adjust the threshold using the amount slider.
  6. You can use Object Aware to automatically select the objects for removal. In Object Aware, Camera Raw borrows content from a source area in the picture. You can Refresh and change the source area.

Tip:
  • Select   to learn more about Generative AI User Guidelines.
  • Copy and Paste edit settings are available for Generative AI. However, the pasted Generative Remove spots on the target photos will not be automatically updated with new content. To update the content for all pasted Generative Remove spots on a target photo, visit that photo, select the Remove tool, and click the Update button in the Remove panel.

As this feature is currently available as Early Access, the Adobe team is still working on developing it to perfection for you. Using the Provide Feedback option, you can share your feedback and experience on the Generative Remove feature.
